Feel Good Friday: Neck and Shoulder Stretch Break

Effective does not have to be complicated when it comes to stress relief.  In this short video I guide you through a simple neck stretch and a few shoulder rolls – perfect for those who sit a lot or are hunched over the computer.  Time to take a break, stretch and relieve some physical stress and tension.

Please always consult a physician before starting any exercise/movement program. If you have neck or shoulder injury, check with your doctor to be sure these stretches/exercises are appropriate for you.

Admittedly the video is a little longer than a minute (I introduce it as the 1 minute stretch break), nonetheless you’ll be done in no time at all.

Enjoy.

  1. I needed this today. Thank you. I try to remind myself to do stretches at work, but it doesn’t always happen. Even with a post-it note in big bold letters reminding me to do so.

    Hey Stacey,
I like simple and easy!! The shoulder roll felt great, by the way!

  3. Chris Edgar says:

That is a useful reminder — that I don’t have to get into some Vashistasana with the leg split-type position every time I want to let go of tension. :) I’ll definitely keep this one in mind.

  4. Karl – You’re welcome. Sometimes we literally need someone there to push us to move!

Lance – the shoulder rolls are nice, aren’t they!

Chris – Good point – vashistasana is not necessary to relax. One of my goals is to make yoga more practical for people. It’s not about the fancy poses!

  5. Evita says:

Stacey it is funny that this is exactly what I have been meaning to do on a regular basis now and just keep putting it off. Then at the end of most days I remember that I shouldn’t have skipped it. Thus thank you for the reminder.

  6. Hi Evita,
You’re welcome! I hope you found it useful.

Hi Stacey .. just got here .. via Lance – but have seen you around .. just not visited, but have and subscribed.

That was really helpful – am just wondering if you’ve got some other one minute exercises somewhere else on the blog? Is there a central place? Thank you -
    Hilary

  8. Hi Hilary, Thank you for stopping by! This is a new series and I am creating more videos. Look for one Tuesday/Wednesday of this week, and for now my goal is weekly after that. I’m glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful! If there is anything in particular you’d like to see, feel free to let me know.
