Part II: Are You Thinking BIG Enough?

Tuesday night I taught a Yoga for Runners class at a local Lululemon Athletica, a retailer that sells clothing for yoga, dancing, running, and most other sweaty pursuits. I was asked to teach the class as a follow up to talk given by two Lululemon ambassadors from Canada – Matt Hill and Stephanie Tait. If you live in Canada, it’s possible you’ve heard their names. On May 4 of this year, Matt and Stephanie left Vancouver, British Columbia for an 11,000 mile run across Canada and around the USA to inspire environmental action, one step at a time.

Matt and Stephanie have the following goals on this year-long running pursuit:

  • 1 marathon EACH per day (yes, that’s 26.2 miles EACH, per day)
  • 1 million people taking 1 new action for Earth
  • $1 million for their Legacy of Action

If this isn’t thinking big, then I don’t know what is. Their story is interesting, as they travel by foot and by eco-friendly vehicle (primarily solar powered), on an adventure they planned for the past 2 years.  Some might call it inspiring and some might say it’s down right crazy.  I say, stop judging. Matt and Stephanie are two people with a goal, making it happen. Are you?  You can learn more about and track their 11,000 mile run at www.runforoneplanet.com.

How big are you thinking? Are you running to save the planet or do you have other goals in mind? Big, in my opinion, is relative. We all have different goals, and none are too small. My goals are small and large, short term and long term. I take small steps every day to get me closer, while not forgetting to enjoy every step along the way! Here are my current BIG thinking goals:

Re-brand my business – I now specialize in individual and corporate programs designed to help people speak with confidence, clarity and composure.  I’m creating new marketing materials, website copy, speaking more and writing a book on the topic. You will notice cosmetic changes to this site as a result. I’ll keep you posted!

Create online wellness resource – I am developing and conceptualizing a new website called Back to Your Senses. I’m producing/hosting videos as we speak! This is my give back – I didn’t have any wellness teachers. Stay tuned for more details on this site, coming soon.

Become a national media personality. Yes, I want to be a TV host, yes, I want to win an Emmy and yes, this is a long term goal. I’ve already written my acceptance speech. Hey, someone has to replace Oprah! About a year ago I started producing a community TV program called Back to Your Senses, where I share and teach information on yoga, fitness, and interviews with other professionals. I have so much fun with this project! I am working to get episodes online for those not in my community. In the meantime if you have community TV in your town, let me know. I’d love to work together to get my show aired in communities around Massachusetts and if possible, the country.

How BIG are you thinking? And what steps will you take to get there?

  1. Wow! What a journey you are on!

I have written goals out 20 years from now. What do I want to look like physically, how do I want to feel emotionally, where do I want to be, mentally and spiritually. I have also worked back 15, 10 and 5 years. My next task is to include 1 year and immediate. Thanks for the reminder!

  2. Stacey,
my goals are written right on the front of LLI so that every time I log in they are the first thing I see. I need to reach out farther though. Thanks for the kick!

  3. Hey why not think big? Why couldn’t you be like Oprah? They say that there’s always room at the top and rightly so.

I want the musical I’m writing to go all the way to Broadway - why can’t it ??

  4. Stacey, I love it! You are thinking big, you have grand plans, and that’s awesome!! Don’t ever give up on your “big”!

Thinking big is all relative - great point. And, the more I think about it, the more I see “big” as - doing something that challenges us, that takes us out of that comfort zone, that really sets us on fire. I’ve just began working on something like that - and it fits perfectly - with the whole thinking big idea. I’m finding it a little scary, lots of fun, and very much outside of my comfort zone.

And, Stacey - cool story you shared about Matt and Stephanie - that is big AND awesome!

  5. I think we all have to think big! Thanks for sharing.

  6. I’m thinking BIG. I am working on creating an online tool to help people practice the art of life balance. Similar to Weight Watchers helping people be accountable for their weight, I want to help people be accountable for practicing the art of the life balance. This is a very Think Big project.

  7. Hi Stacey: I think it was Nelson Mandela who said: “The world doesn’t need anymore people thinking small.” Your goals sound like a lot of fun, and yet they’re oriented toward helping others at the same time. That’s great Stacey :-)

  8. You go girl! As for me, an immediate Think Big goal is to run a half marathon race in May. Beyond that, I really need to put some thought to other Think Big goals. My life over the past year has been one change after the next (to say the least). There is a light at the end of that tunnel, so pretty soon it will be time to take another look at what I want and where I’m going.
