Peace of Mind is Not Far Now

“Two conditions rob people of their peace of mind: work unfinished and work not yet begun.” - Author Unknown

I read this quote and it rang true loud and clear. Does it resonate with you? I have so many things I want to accomplish; it’s easy to get caught up thinking about my ideas without taking action. Too much thought (often due to fear), without enough action can lead to overwhelm. Have you ever ended your day exhausted, but feel as though you didn’t get much accomplished? I have, and it’s usually the result of too much thinking and not enough task completion. That can lead to unnecessary stress and frustration.

This week I found myself somewhere in the middle of work unfinished and work not yet started. So I grabbed hold of the reigns, put thoughts aside (for now, thinking is an important part of the process!) and started drafting my Stress Less for the Holiday’s ebook, scheduled for completion by month’s end. There is a lot of work to do, and I’m excited about it. Peace of mind is not far now.  And I’ll enjoy it for a bit before I’m on to the next project, starting the cycle again.

How are you feeling these days? Do you have peace of mind or is there unfinished work in your life?  Whether it’s “work work”, a conversation you’re avoiding, or a decision you can’t seem to make, think about the steps you can take to find that peace of mind.

If you’re at peace, congratulations!

Getting that work done is an exciting (and sometimes more relaxing) place to be. I look forward to sharing the Holiday Stress e-book with you later this month. And please, share your tactics for finding peace of mind, I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t like a dose of that right now.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. “Have you ever ended your day exhausted, but feel as though you didn’t get much accomplished?” Dude, it’s like you’re in my mind!

The quote rings true for me as well. There are big plans that I’m putting off, and I have a feeling that it’s the not-yet-begun-ness of the whole thing that’s been draining me. Thanks for putting it out there–and good luck with putting your ebook together!

  2. It feels great to finish a job-well-done.

If I have a large project, I set short-term goals.

It is much better to go on and do the job than to just dread it. That’s what I hate,

    Thanks

  3. Sometimes you just have to “do”. I’ve had a couple of major projects at work, projects that affect many people, that I had been putting off - and just kept going over them in my head - is everything ready. What am I missing. Etc. Finally, a couple of weeks ago, I finally decided it was time to finish. While there have been issues to work through, and some I’m still dealing with, the net effect has been that I am more “at peace” because these projects are now behind me.

Sometimes what also works for me is to break away from whatever it is that I’m doing - and just be active. Exercise. Play a game of football. Work in the yard. Afterwards, I’m more focused on whatever the task at hand is. And this usually leads to a better job on my part of getting things done.

Good luck on the ebook - that is exciting! I look forward to seeing it…

  4. FINALLY at peace. The last month or so was quite stressful with work to do and work not quite done. We had to complete the patio for the outdoor kitchen, and get me moved into the Lion’s. Both had deadlines, and weighed heavy on us. And you are right, we didn’t seem to accomplish much! Both those tasks are done and this weekend was wonderful. We accomplished so much moving from one task to the next, but it was so relaxing.

  5. @Sara - I used to think it was the “what if” that overwhelmed me and now I realize it’s the inaction. Here is to action!

@James - it’s the small goals that make a big difference. Dread can weigh you down.

@Lance - A break definitely helps! Sometimes I’m “on break” too much :-)

@UrbanPanther - I’m glad you finally have some peace…I hope it lasts long enough to enjoy before a new wave hits!

  6. Hi Stacey: I’m creating a personal planner for myself and I’m going to incorporate a month-in-review feature where I can write down everything I accomplished for each month. I think that sometimes part of the problem is that we don’t stop to recognize everything we’ve accomplished, but instead we focus on everything we still have left to do.

  7. Everyday is ended with my mind racing and my thoughts of “what else did I forget to do, what if I do a bit more?”

I think I have an issue with the need to finish instead of living in the process…if that makes sense? I always want to get everything done, patience is very challenging for me. Maybe meditation is my next goal? Very nice post….thank you!

  8. Most days, i’d wake up with a bang….like there is so much left undone. Towards the night, I’d relax and feel that I’ve done all that I can for the day. It’s nice to end off with a meditation session, for peace of mind.

  9. I have items in both categories…work unfinished and work not yet begun. My creative practice is creating so many juicy ideas in my head that I don’t have the time to finish all of my drafts or begin all of my new ideas. In a way, it can be seen as overwhelming. It is also very exciting to have my creative juice overflowing faster than I can manage the ideas. It’s an exciting ride. I have peace of mind knowing my ideas are turning into reality. I’d have more peace of mind if I had clear path for revealing all of my projects.

Right now, my peace of mind is being jeopardized by the global and local economic crisis people are facing.
