Monday Quote and a Morning Walk
“An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day.”
- Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) American Author, Critic and Naturalist
I can certainly relate to that. Lately I’ve been foregoing my morning jog for a nice morning walk. The world is still quiet, and the birds are alive. I am alive. The air is cool, and there is a calm that washes over me as I breathe in the fresh air. It’s like a meditation. The walk is not powerful, not leisurely, and falls somewhere in the middle. No effort, no tension. It’s relaxed. This quote reminds me of the joy I get each day when I start with a morning walk.
Imagine what your day might be like if you start with just you and the sound of the birds. Listen to the music they make, their rhythm. It’s a beautiful sound. The natural beauty and music of nature, that we, as a society, forget so often to stop, look, and listen to. It’s an inexpensive and not-so-time consuming experience that can benefit you in more ways than you may ever know. I’m talking 10 to 20 minutes. Only got 5? Take it. As always don’t take my word for it… take the walk to experience it for yourself. Walking not your thing? Maybe there is some other early morning outdoor activity you enjoy (Today I was rowing). The point, for me, is to get outside and enjoy nature.
I’m glad for this reminder. Tomorrow I will start with that morning walk. What about you?

Walking is a great stress reliever for me, too.
BTW, I started a discussion about ways we deal with stress over at Iowa Avenue. Feel free to take a look…………..:)
