How would you answer the question: "What do you do?"

A week or so ago Naomi over at Ittzybiz challenged her readers to answer a few questions about what our small business is all about. It started when one of her own readers emailed her that same question. She asked us, “How many of your readers know what you do?” The question for me hit home because I don’t know how clear I’ve been about that on this blog (or anywhere!) I have been in a state of redefining my business, and now I’m ready to talk about it. So, while the answers to this are a bit delayed, here they are.

Oh, and she’s compiling a list of everyone’s links, so if you have an “Ittybiz” and want to tell your readers what you do, go for it and you’ll be part of the fun!

What’s your game? What do you do?
I am a writer, speaker, TV Host and educator specializing in helping people manage stress in order to live a more healthy, fulfilling, effective and balanced lifestyle.

Corporate training programs, onsite wellness consultant, public speaker
Sample Topics: stress management, time management, effective communication, public speaking, boosting confidence, business wellness, achieving dreams, blogging, over-exercising. Trainings may be half day, full day or ongoing programs. Speaking engagements vary by organization.

Products. I just finished recording my first short meditations CD which will be available for purchase online soon. I also offer free resources on the Let it Flow website that include a monthly newsletter, free audio and video podcasts, and of course the TV show which now airs locally in Quincy and Weymouth, MA. These are all part of the Let it Flow Experience (L.i.F.E.) and I will explain more about this at a later time.

I also work with individuals on the phone or in person who want a more customized and personal program.

Why do you do it? Do you love it, or do you just have one of those creepy knacks?

A little of both. I do love it. I love providing information to people that makes them think differently and I love to teach them tools and practices that make them feel great. Practices like yoga and meditation are calming and relaxing, and when I hear someone say at the end of a session, “Wow, the shoulder pain I’ve had for the past few weeks, and walked in here with, is completely gone!” that is very satisfying. I love to share information that helps people live better and feel better!

Who are your customers? What kind of people would need or want what you offer?

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t suffer from stress, want to be more productive and live healthier. That said, I have targeted it to:

Small/Medium sized business who 1) understand the importance of wellness programs for employees and see it as a cost benefit 2) give the employees the time they need to participate. I would need to speak to HR Directors/Training directors - people who make the training and/or wellness program decisions.

I’ve worked with organizations like Team in Training, Chambers of Commerce, High Schools, Colleges, Elder Service organizations, Attorney groups, the Arthritis Foundation. I’ve enjoyed working with these organizations and the plan is to continue to do so, always expanding my reach.

My products (CDs, DVDs, etc) are targeted to the everyday consumer. You, the readers of this blog and all of your friends who are looking to manage stress and live a more balanced lifestyle on your own terms - at home, on your schedule, within your budget.

What’s your marketing USP? Why should I buy from you instead of the other losers?

There are a few reasons:

  • Not only can I speak and educate you about managing stress (and other topics) I can teach you the methods and techniques (The how-to). I am certified in personal training, yoga, CPR. I’m also a local hiking guide. I pride myself on safe and effective instruction. I am truly your one stop resource for living well.
  • I am a former corporate type, who very much understands that environment. I have a down to earth approach to managing stress and all of my programs.
  • The work I do is all about you or the organization. I tune in to your needs in order to help you do the same. I’m not going to force anyone into one activity or conversation because there is some rule saying “you should”. I give options because we are all different, with different experiences and needs.
  • I don’t teach what I don’t know or have no experience in.

What’s next for you? What’s the big plan?

The big push is to expand my corporate training/wellness programs and speaking engagements.

I’ll be developing more books, CDs, DVDs for sale in the coming months.

You can expect a new blog site from me in the coming weeks, too. Updated, new and improved.

And the really big picture? I want to take my current community TV show (which includes yoga, fitness and interviews with wellness professionals) and submit that for national distribution. I want to be on TV and win an Emmy. I’ve already drafted my acceptance speech (part of that law of attraction thing) and besides, someone has to replace Oprah.

And thanks Naomi for this exercise! It’s the ultimate excuse for some self promotion.
