American Diabetes Alert Day - Tuesday March 25

Diabetes (Type 2) is a serious health concern today. I read stories online, listen to segments on the news, talk to people weekly who are at risk or have been recently diagnosed. Lifestyle, including diet, exercise, stress levels, are a huge factor in the increased number of people living with diabetes. Age and family history are also factors to take into consideration.

According to the American Diabetes Association:

  • Nearly 21 million children and adults in the U.S. have diabetes
  • One-third of those or more than six million do not know they have diabetes
  • One in five Americans is at risk for developing type 2 diabetes

The American Diabetes Association has dedicated March 25 (tomorrow) as American Diabetes Alert Day. A day dedicated to information the American public about the serious nature of diabetes. American Diabetes Alert Day is traditionally observed on the 4th Tuesday of March, and tomorrow marks the 20th year.

To find out your risk level, take the Diabetes Risk Test. If the results aren’t favorable, call your doctor immediately to seek help. This is serious business and denying your level of risk is not the best way to live a healthy life. You cannot care for your family or work responsibilities when you are ill. There’s no shame in admitting you may be at risk. Remember you are not alone and plenty of support is available. Take advantage of the resources and take control over your health. Diabetes is affecting millions, you have the power to make sure it doesn’t affect you.
