4 Key Components to Healthy Living

I’ve talked to lots of people over the past couple of years as I started my business and I hear the same thing over and over again. I used to exercise, I have no time to exercise, I need to lose 15 lbs for my cruise, I’m not flexible enough for yoga…the list goes on.

All this talk, thinking about what works for me and consideration of recent weight loss news stories, leads me to believe the following 4 components are critical to healthy living (weight loss, maintenance and vitals) and managing stress (not necessarily in this order!):

  • Physical Activity
  • Relaxation Techniques
  • Connect with nature
  • Positive Communication

These are general categories, there is more to this puzzle which I will go into with additional posts. I practice these 4 myself (admittedly some days are better than others - positive communication is a challenge!) and they work for me. My family (both sides) has a history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. I have yet to show any signs of the above conditions (getting vitals checked in February) and I credit that to my diligence in incorporating the above 4 components into my wellness routine.

I don’t practice all of them daily, that would be very time consuming. I practice what I need (or what I think I need and that’s a lifelong process). I’ve stopped living by how I look so I can focus on how I feel. I said it in my last post - it’s when I feel good, I look good. That change alone has relieved much of my stress.

I believe in these 4 components so much I’m putting together a group of people to test my hypothesis. I will be posting more information about the test group in the next couple of days - check back for details and ways to participate.

What do you think? What are your components to healthy living?
