Thoughts for the New Year: Never Give Up
Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and have had time to reflect on all that happened during 2007. As I think back to the years that have past, I realize that each year has been better than the last. 2007 was no different.
I’ll go back two years. In 2006, I saw a dream turn into a reality when I left my corporate job to pursue a career for which I have great passion – helping people incorporate health and wellness into their lives. It wasn’t easy to leave the comfort and safety of a steady paycheck, and yet I took the risk. I kept on that path in 2007 and it continued to be a very different and wonderful career adventure. Ups and downs for sure - it comes with the territory of being an entrepreneur.
One of the most important lessons I will take with me into 2008 is to never give up. When I originally entered into a world of the unknown I often wondered, “Will the business succeed?” “Will I be able to pay my bills?” and “Was this the right choice?” I was in a constant battle of faith vs. worry. One part of me wanted to give up and go back to that steady paycheck. The other part of me said, “No way, take a chance; keep going with this, it’s what you love!” And so I keep going. I didn’t give up because in the end I have nothing to lose. Deep down I know this what I’m supposed to do and the rewards have been endless.
As we start the New Year, resolutions abound – lose more weight, get a new job, quit smoking, find a healthy relationship. Who will give up on these and who will succeed? You may think you do not have the answer, but you do. The answer is within you already. You have the power to achieve the goals you set for this year and the next. Remember: Never give up! The good times and the pain is all worth it.
What will you make happen in 2008? Will you give up or take on the challenge and persevere?
I’m very much looking forward to all that 2008 has to offer me, and I wish you all a year of health, happiness and success.
