Yoga Studio Review - Yoga Spot Wellesley, MA

On Saturday I attended, for the first time, a yoga class at the Yoga Spot in Wellesley. It’s a heated Power Yoga Studio right across from Whole Foods on Route 16. I took the 9:30am Power Yoga Class with Renata (owner).

Physical Environment
The studio is located right on route 16 and there is plenty of parking (Check the Yoga Spot website for more parking info). The studio is located on the 2nd floor and has plenty of space for coats and shoes. There is a bathroom and changing room (no showers) and a small check in area just outside the practice room. She sells yoga clothes and accessories as well as water and towel rentals.

The practice room itself was not big at all and had an awkward shape. The walls were neutral in color and there was 1 mirror in the back of the room. The room was bright with windows on the front and side wall. There were less than 10 students yesterday which provided me plenty of space. Overall, I liked the feel of the yoga room - nothing to distract you and bright for an uplifting and energetic feeling.

General Thoughts
It appeared to me that the YogaSpot is wonderful a community yoga studio. All of the ladies knew each other – whether from the studio or outside the studio I don’t know. They were friendly and several of them easily included me in their conversations. They also checked in with me as “the new girl” to see how I enjoyed the class. I thought that was really nice.

This is heated a power studio. The room was warm but not outrageous like other studios I’ve been to. It was dry heat, no steam - so I wasn’t dripping with sweat when we were done.

I was challenged for sure and we did some different poses I don’t get to practice a lot. I always learn something new when I attend other people’s classes.

The women in the class were fit, muscular and knew their yoga. No big deal to me because I know I don’t have to follow along if it doesn’t feel right for my body. If you choose to try this studio I suggest you know your limits and don’t feel like you have to keep up!

Remember we all had to start somewhere and if you don’t start at all, you’ll never make improvements. I still think back to my first heated power yoga class when I thought I was going to pass out from heat and I couldn’t do half the poses we were guided through. But I loved it just the same and kept coming back.

Overall, I would recommend the YogaSpot for those of you located in Wellesley looking for a nice studio to practice. They also offer kids classes.
