Kripalu Cookbook - Recommended for Healthy Eating

It’s been a week since I returned from my weekend at Kripalu and I’m still feeling the peace I experienced while I was there. The other thing I’m still experiencing is the wonderful cuisine. I bought the Kripalu cookbook at the gift store and I have been cooking from it all week with much success.

I spent extra time at Whole Foods this week learning about ingredients I had never even heard of and I’m looking forward to experimenting. So far we have enjoyed spinach-feta casseroles, herbed biscuits (a hit on Thanksgiving!) and lentil soups. Over 300 recipes to choose from! I love to cook and this has added a new dimension to my repertoire.

Healthy eating is possible and can be delicious! The key (or at least what I was reminded of) is using all natural ingredients without added fats and sugars. I learned that rice syrup is a substitution for sugar when baking items like sweet breads and cookies. Butter is not necessary for flavor - stock up on herbs and spices instead.

If you are looking for new healthy ideas good for you and your family, I highly recommend The Kripalu Cookbook: Gourmet Vegetarian Recipes by Atma Jo Ann Levitt. My husband has been enjoying everything I’ve made as well. It’s indulgent food that you can feel good about! The book includes a history of Kripalu cooking, kitchen basics/staples, menu planning for large parties, appetizers, breakfast, soups, sauces, salads, side dishes and more. It’s comprehensive and a must have for healthy eaters.
