Hike at Mont Tremblant, Canada

Last weekend we had the opportunity to travel up to the Montreal area to visit friends. On Sunday we took the 90 minute drive north to Mont Tremblant to hike and tour around. What a beautiful spot. A lake, a village, and a mountain which on Sunday had snow at the top. The sun was shining, the sky pure blue. It was a brilliant day. A 4-season destination location offering something for everyone: shopping, skiing, hiking, biking, boating, dining and a spa. Plenty of fun for kids, too. (at least there were lots of families while we were there)

I had never been there, and in the short time we had I decided I couldn’t wait to go back!

Hiking the mountain was great - we started on a well created “trail” mostly wood stairs and we walked by waterfalls, that were also covered with ice and snow. It was a nice mix.

Then we just trekked up a ski slope to the top.

The bottom of the mountain was so warm we didn’t have any winter clothes on. Once we arrived at the top the wind was blowing and the temperature dropped a few degrees. We were prepared and continued to enjoy the trek. I highly recommend dressing in layers and being prepared for weather changes (on this or any hike).

In total we spent about 2.5 hours on the hike with 10 or so minutes at the top. Not too bad and left plenty of time to enjoy a glass of wine at one of the bars in the village at the base of the mountain.

I can’t wait to go back, hopefully next summer. If you’re planning a trip to the Montreal area of Canada and you enjoy outdoor activities, I recommend taking a drive to Mont Tremblant. Whether it’s just for the day or an overnight, it’s worth it.

Note: When we were there the exchange was not great for us 1.10 Canadian to 1.00 US. Besides that everything is more expensive in Canada. For example, we had lunch in Old Town Montreal one afternoon. 3 sandwhiches, 2 beers and a hot chocolate totaled $100 US.

Save your pennies and take the drive. From Boston it’s not that bad about 5 to 5.5 hours. It’s a nice drive through Franconia Notch in NH and then on through VT.
