New Study: Single and those who chew gum shed more pounds

If you’re single or you are a gum chewer there is good news for you. You may shed more calories than your counterparts. Two studies were presented at an obesity conference organized by the Obesity Society.

The Married and Weight Gain Study:
5 year study of about 8,000 young Americans. Over a 5 year period women put on 15lbs and men 24lbs. Those who were married gained even more: women 24lbs and men 30lbs.

YIKES!
I remember when I first started dating Michael - I definitely put on a few pounds. Eating out more, cooking less. Less time for the gym. Then I panicked and put an end to that!

It’s funny because I’ve recently had this conversation with some friends. Some make the change back and some give up saying “what can I do?” You can do a lot!

The Gum Study:
60 people were asked to prepare a meal while chewing gum. The study showed that those who chewed gum during meal preparation had fewer hunger pangs and ate less. They also reduced their “sweet snack” intake by 46.5 calories.

I typically chew my gum for short periods of time, just for the flavor. I guess I’ll keep it in my mouth a little longer next time.
