Yoga DVD Reviews - Rodney Yee, Bryan Kest, Donna Helm-Yost

These are my favorite at home yoga practice DVDs…
Bryan Kest Power Yoga, Levels 1, 2 and 3If you’re looking for a powerful yoga practice and a good stretch, Bryan Kest brings it to you. Viewing and practicing with these videos is like being in a class, although this class is full of very fit, very [...]

Make Some Noise During Yoga

I just finished my morning practice and today I practiced at home using the Bryan Kest Power Yoga II DVD. What a great yoga practice. Lots of twisting, strengthening and stretching. I haven’t had a full practice since earlier in the week and I could feel the tension in my body building. [...]

Why I Teach Yoga

I’ve written so much about why I practice yoga I forget to think about why I teach yoga. No matter who I teach - runners, beginners, advanced - I leave feeling like I made a difference to someone else. That feeling doesn’t always come easy, but it does come. Today I [...]

Meditation Works - But don’t take my word for it…

I recently taught a lunch time meditation class at a company in Boston. There were 20+ people in the room, and only 3 had practiced meditation in the past. I had a room full of beginners.
That meant I had to explain what meditation is, how it works, some things to expect. I had [...]

New Study - Acupuncture Good for Chronic Back Pain

A study conducted at a University in Germany finds that both real and fake acupuncture perform much better than conventional care for low back pain relief.
The study appeared in today’s (Monday) Archives of Internal Medicine.
Conventional care = medications, physical therapy, exercise.

47% of patients improved in the [...]

Creating a Quiet Space

I’ve written about creating a physical quiet space - a room or corner of a room that you can make your own personal retreat. A quiet area where you can rest and “get away from it all”. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? What happens after you create that space? What do you [...]

Toastmasters - New Club in Hanover, Massachusetts

I’ve been a member of Toastmasters for more than 2 years and it has helped me in more ways than I imagined when I first joined. Being a member of Toastmasters has provided me with the following:

Improved meeting management skills
Improved Leadership Skills (I served as Quincy Toastmasters club president last year)
Improved public speaking [...]

Improving communication skills

We communicate every day and there is no way to escape it. At what point in our lives did it become so difficult? I certainly don’t have the answer to that and for me I know it goes back to developmental years and the way I was communicated to by parents, teachers, family members and [...]

What makes a good yoga instructor?

I think I posted about this a while ago, yet it’s a question that stays on my mind (probably because I’m an instructor). I recently realized that the answer to this question, for me anyway, comes down to one thing. What makes a good (or great) yoga instructor is the instructor who is [...]

Global Mala Project/International Day of Peace

Global Mala Project events will take place the weekend of September 21 (this weekend) all over the world. There are several events taking place in Massachusetts - [...]
