P90X - Week 5 and 6

Today is Sunday, the end of week 6 (I’ve lost track of days). We are in phase II and I feel a little guilty today. As I wrote in my reflections post, I have decided to continue faithfully with the weight workouts and keep Plyos for a rainy day. I run and practice yoga on my own, without Tony.

The reason for my “guilt” is that this week I skipped my legs and back workout. I admit I was a little disappointed that didn’t change for phase II as the other workouts did! Friday was a beautiful day and I didn’t feel like being inside, so I went for a run and a yoga class. I figured, ok, I still have Saturday. I didn’t feel like exercising at all on Saturday!

Set back? I highly doubt it. The phase II workouts are intense - 1 arm push ups? Very difficult and each time I finish the strength workouts my arms feel like jelly. Monday was Chest, Tri’s and Shoulders and that night I decided to go to a yoga class. I could barely hold myself up in downward facing dog! Lesson learned - when I do strength I won’t do any kind of powerful yoga!

After 6 weeks I definitely feel stronger, and Michael says he’s noticing that my arms look more toned (ok, I notice it a bit, too). I have definitely increased the weights I’m using for the exercises and am able to do more push-ups. We also have a chin up bar that I’ve graduated to, with a chair for support. I’m not quite ready to do the pull ups without a chair but I’m feeling that time will come soon.

What I struggle with is the amount of time the workouts take. Before starting P90X I was doing 20 to 30 minutes of weights with a 30 minute run leaving me plenty of time for stretching or yoga. Now I do 50 to 60 minutes with Tony, then a 30 minute run. It becomes hard to fit in the stretching/yoga and I think this week I pushed too hard each day fitting it all in and by the end of the week I burned out. It happens. My focus this week will be to balance more so I don’t burnout!

Tomorrow starts week 7 with Chest, shoulders, tri’s. I do enjoy the morning workouts and I feel pumped and energized for the day when I get them done. I enjoyed my few days off to recover from “burnout” and I’m looking forward to getting back to it in the morning.
