P90X - Days 14, 15, 16, 17
End of week 2, beginning of week 3…
Day 14 - X Stretch or Rest
Since I was starting to feel better from my head cold on this day, I decided to rest from all things P90X. Instead, we went for a walk on the beach, which was much better than stretching in the home gym since the weather was perfect here in Massachusetts. Oh, and because we went to the beach, we had dinner out and I had french fries with my sandwich. Please don’t let Tony know. Fries aren’t on the diet.
Day 15 - Chest and Back
Week 3 of chest and back and I definitely feel a difference in my strength. I am able to do more push-ups (though not 30 like the hotshots in the video) and I could do “real” dive bombers instead of the modified version. We worked pretty hard that morning and my arms were feeling it for sure. The soreness I experienced in week 1 has not returned.
Day 16 - Plyometrics
Again, this was a non-p90X day. I taught a yoga class on the beach in the early am and since it was supposed to be 90 degrees that day decided to stay on the beach for a bit and go for a jog instead. I don’t need plyometrics in my routine, though it’s a nice change up. Even with A/C on high, jumping around my house was not on my list of things to do. No plyo’s this week.
Day 17 - Shoulders and arms
Today we both worked super hard. The last time we felt really strong in the morning we had gone out for ice cream the night before. Last night we also went out for ice cream. So forget about your protein drinks people, ice cream is the way to go. Today I used more weight, did more reps and my arms were feeling it. More so than the last 2 arm/shoulder workouts. I think there is something to eating ice cream once in a while. Again, don’t tell Tony - it’s not on his diet.
My general comments so far.
I have several. Ab Ripper X, in my opinion, is not so good for all people. It’s intense, true, but if you are new to exercise or new to ab work and you don’t know what your body can handle some of the exercises could hurt you rather than help you. If you have lower back issues, be careful, a lot of these exercises are not appropriate for you. Go slow and if anything doesn’t feel right, don’t be afraid to back off.
Since the purchase of P90X was my husband’s idea and I’m following along with him, I’ve decided not to get worked up over missing a day if I choose another activity. I’m having fun with it, and will stick with it for the 90 days, I am not going to get upset if I don’t end up with a 6-pack of abs. I enjoy varying my activities, especially in the summer. I’m not giving up on all of that.
Until next time fellow P90Xers…BRING IT!
