Massage Review - Lighten Up Wellness

Back in April I attended the Love, Light and Laughter event sponsored by Aspire Magazine. Although I didn’t have a long time to spend at the event I had enough time to visit some of the vendors and enter my business card in to win a raffle prize. When I saw the number of entries at each of the tables, I thought there is no way I’m going to win!

I was wrong.

Later that week (first week of May) I received a phone call from Tina Walsh of Lighten Up Wellness Center in Mansfield. I had won her table raffle - a free massage! I was so excited. Mansfield is not all that close to Weymouth but I figured what the heck - it’s free!

Due to my schedule, I waited several weeks for this massage. Now I’ve had massage from different therapists and honestly I’ve never been disappointed (more reviews another time).

Usually I go for a massage and need a lot of work - shoulders, legs, feet. and head. I love a deep tissue massage to really work on the knots. I find that while deep work is great especially after the fact, it’s not always the most relaxing experience while on the table.

The massage I had today with Tina was a great mix of getting the knots out and relaxation. At one point I felt my body twitch and thought I might fall asleep on the table! Tina’s massage is a combination of massage, Reiki (hands on energy work) and myofascial release (for more info on this visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myofascial_Release or Google myofascial release).

Before we started Tina asked me if there were any specific areas I needed work on. We had a brief consultation and then I got on the table. She didn’t miss any part of my body with this massage. One of my favorite parts was the little bit of work she did on my arms. Pulling my fingers a bit and massage the muscles in my arms felt incredible. I don’t often get an arm massage! She did a bit of Reiki and that’s when I started to fade.

When the hour was up and I got off the table, not only did I feel relaxed, I also felt lighter. She worked out some “kinks” in that short period of time.

Tina herself has great energy as does her space. Not only does she offer massage at her N. Main St location, she also offers yoga classes. Her space was bright and comfortable and simple. Not a lot of distractions so I can imagine a yoga class would be very relaxing there. I would highly recommend her massage service to anyone in the Mansfield, MA area. I haven’t attended her yoga classes yet, and I hope to in the near future.
